With the game on the line, and only a few seconds to go, the camera scans the frenzied crowd. On the lips of screaming fans, anxious coaches, and exhausted athletes are these two words, “Let’s go!” Any casual observer can see it. Haven’t noticed it? Just watch. You’ll see it.
Why do we fans scream these words so much? Because we truly want to believe we have a chance of winning, every time. For a few exhilarating moments, near the end of any close game, there is hope for victory. And we will scream with all our vocal capacity, “Let’s go,” hoping to spur our team on to a win.
Winning. We all want to be on the winning team. Because when we are, we own the bragging rights. At least for that season. And in winning, even when we don’t contribute to the victory physically, we feel a certain sense of connection with our team, our community, and those who are collectively related to each other through the same colors and name on a uniform.
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” –Romans 8:31b
As a child of God, you will always be on the winning team. It may not feel like it today, because, in all honesty, your day may have felt like a total loss. Your family may be slipping through your hands. You career may be ending. A poor decision may have led you down a path you never expected. For whatever reason, you may feel you just landed on the losing side of the final buzzer. You’re tempted to throw in the towel, to give up, or to quit early. And you find yourself at a point that questions arise for God quicker than do the promises from God. We’ve all had those days, those seasons. But hang on! Your Coach wants you to have a new game plan, a new perspective. And with that plan comes a voice of confidence, pleading, “Let’s go!”
You can do it! You are on the winning team! Sure, our adversary may win a battle here and there, but the ultimate victory belongs to you, child of God. Maybe you just need a simple tweaking of perspective. You know, seeing things from God’s view and not the one your current lens provides. That’s an adjustment we all need from time to time; a realignment to the view that reminds us of this promise, “if God is for us, who can be against us?” Did you get that? Can you fully grasp the power of that promise? With God on our side, our opponent has no victorious power!
Come on team! We win! You win! I don’t know about you, but I want to live my life confident of that promise; knowing that the God of the universe, my Savior, is on my side, pulling for me, cheering me on. And that with Him, all things really are possible.
So listen up. The game isn’t over yet. There’s still time on the clock and our Coach needs you to keep your head in the game. It’s time for your second wind. Let’s Go!
