Tips for Summertime Fun

Can you believe that the school year will be over in just a few short weeks? I don’t know if it’s because we haven’t had the typical spring-like weather, but I can’t believe that my son will be home all day starting in a few short weeks. If your children are like mine, the first few days home will be wonderful! They will find all the toys they haven’t played with in awhile, get along nicely with their siblings, and hopefully enjoy the summer weather. Then it hits, “I’m bored, what can I do?” I started coming up with a “bucket list” of ideas for my kids to do each day. They can pick them out of a cute little sand bucket for those times when they are bored, or just for something exciting to do that day. Here are some items that I’ve come up with, but feel free to add to the bucket list. Have a wonderful summer!

  1. Do rubbings of leaves or other nature items found outside
  2. Make a list of items to find in the yard and send them on a scavenger hunt
  3. Make homemade play dough
  4. Make homemade popsicles
  5. Head to the library and sign up for the summer reading program
  6. Go to the beach
  7. Go fishing
  8. Have a backyard campout
  9. Have a lemonade stand
  10. Make a blanket fort
  11. Go on an alphabet scavenger hunt (find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet)
  12. Make homemade bubbles
  13. Fly kites
  14. Wash the car
  15. Make liquid sidewalk chalk (1 cup water, 1 cup cornstarch, food coloring)
  16. Make colored ice cubes and paint the driveway as they melt
  17. Put out a bag of marshmallows and a box of toothpicks and see what they can create
  18. Joust with pool noodles
  19. Bake cookies for a neighbor
  20. Go for a bike ride to the ice cream shop
